Join the Himalayan Pollinator Patrol and become a citizen scientist! Help us monitor and protect vital pollinator species across Nepal and the Himalayan region.
Welcome to the Himalayan Pollinator Patrol, a citizen science initiative dedicated to the conservation and study of pollinators across Nepal and the Himalayan region. Join us in our mission to protect these vital species and contribute to environmental sustainability.
About Us
The Himalayan Pollinator Patrol is a project by the Nature Conservation and Study Centre (NCSC), aimed at engaging communities in the monitoring and protection of pollinators. Our program empowers citizen scientists to observe, document, and report pollinator activity, contributing to valuable research and conservation efforts.
Why Pollinators Matter
Pollinators play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity and ensuring the health of ecosystems. They are responsible for the reproduction of over 75% of flowering plants and crops, making them essential for food security and agricultural sustainability. However, pollinators are facing significant threats due to habitat loss, climate change, and pesticide use. By understanding and protecting these species, we can help preserve our natural heritage and support global food systems.
Get Involved
Become a Citizen Scientist
By joining the Himalayan Pollinator Patrol, you can make a real difference. Whether you are a seasoned naturalist or a beginner, your observations are valuable to our research. Here’s how you can participate:
- Observe: Go out into nature and observe pollinator activity. Use the iNaturalist app or our provided data sheet to record your findings.
- Submit Data: Upload your observations to our platform, contributing to a comprehensive database of pollinator activity in the region.
Data Submission
You can submit your data using two methods:
- iNaturalist: Use the iNaturalist app to upload your observations directly from your smartphone to our project Himalayan Pollinator Patrol.
- Data Sheet: Download our Pollinator Data Sheet and fill it out during your observation sessions. You can then submit the completed data sheet through our website.
Both methods help us compile accurate and comprehensive data on pollinator activity in the Himalayan region.
Our Impact
The Himalayan Pollinator Patrol aims to engage citizen scientists, collect observations, and contributed to research projects aimed at understanding and protecting pollinators. Your participation helps us:
- Monitor pollinator populations and health.
- Identify key habitats and threats.
- Inform policy and conservation strategies.
- Open database on pollinators of Nepal
