Empowered indigenous communities with a strong identity and sustainable livelihood are the best stewards of this planet.
Changing natural resource availability and climate change has left communities highly vulnerable. Cultural identities from indigenous communities are depleting.
Nepal is a country with a diverse ethnic population and unique cultural and natural heritage. Indigenous communities in Nepal have relied on natural resources for their livelihoods for centuries.
However, unsustainable resource use and commercial exploitation threaten these resources and the communities that depend on them. Additionally, the lack of recognition of indigenous peoples’ rights in policymaking and conservation efforts can lead to conflicts.
Our Approach
We empower communities, enhance awareness and collaborate with them to preserve their cultural identities.
Our aim is to create resilient communities with their cultural identities intact and means of sustainable livelihood options.
Nepal has recognized the rights of indigenous communities in the country’s constitution.
Community forestry programs have empowered local communities to manage and protect their forests sustainably. These programs have proved that empowering local communities can help to improve the livelihoods of communities while ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.
Nepal is one of the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The country is already experiencing changes in temperature and precipitation patterns, leading to water scarcity, landslides, and flooding. These impacts are particularly severe for communities living in mountainous regions, where they depend on natural resources for their livelihoods.
Adaptation is critical for communities to cope with the impacts of climate change and other threats to their livelihoods. More efforts are needed to promote sustainable and inclusive development in Nepal.
