The Nature Conservation and Study Centre (NCSC) proudly participated in the Nepal Owl Festival 2024, held on February 2nd and 3rd in Lopre, Parbat, Nepal. We joined forces with the Friends of Nature (FON) and the Natural Resource Conservation Organization to celebrate these magnificent birds and raise awareness about their crucial role in our ecosystem.
While the festival focused primarily on owls, NCSC took the opportunity to showcase the breadth and impact of our diverse conservation projects across Nepal. Our stall, manned by the dedicated Nishan Limbu, provided attendees with informative materials and engaging discussions about:
- Pangolin Conservation: Learn about our ongoing efforts to protect the critically endangered Chinese pangolin in the Khotang region, including community capacity building, community education, and habitat monitoring.
- Turtle Project: Discover our project focused on the conservation of the Indian Peacock Softshell Turtle in eastern Nepal, aimed at ensuring the survival of this unique and threatened species.
- Community Conservation in Trijuga: Explore our community conservation project within the Trijuga forest of Udayapur, where we work hand-in-hand with local communities to protect biodiversity and promote sustainable resource management.
- Living with Leopards: Gain insights into our innovative community conservation project in Dakshinkali, where we work to mitigate human-leopard conflict and foster peaceful coexistence.
- Celebrating Success: Reflect on our completed “Chamero, Chiuri, and Chepang” project, which empowered indigenous Chepang communities to sustainably manage their resources and improve their livelihoods.
Engaging with the Community:
Nishan actively engaged with festival attendees, from curious students to passionate conservationists. Through interactive activities, informative displays, and lively discussions, he shared valuable insights into NCSC’s diverse conservation efforts and their impact on Nepal’s rich biodiversity.
Building Connections:
The Nepal Owl Festival provided a valuable platform for NCSC to connect with a diverse audience, including local communities, conservation organizations, and international delegates. These interactions fostered valuable partnerships and collaborations, strengthening our network and amplifying our conservation impact.
Impactful Participation:
NCSC’s participation in the Nepal Owl Festival 2024 was a memorable event. We showcased the breadth and impact of our work across Nepal. This participation aligns perfectly with our mission to promote environmental awareness, empower communities, and actively engage in safeguarding our precious natural heritage.
We are grateful to FON and the Natural Resource Conservation Organization for organizing this important event and extending the invitation to NCSC.
