News: Event Update, March 14 2023
The hike was conducted by butterfly expert Sanej Prasad Suwal and attended by eight butterfly enthusiasts. The participants ranged from beginner butterfly watchers to professional lepidopterists. The hike began at 7:15 am at Suryabinayak temple and proceeded along the picturesque trail towards Mali Gaon, Sipadol via Doleshwor Mahadev temple. The trail was around 5 kilometers long and moderate in difficulty. The sky was partly cloudy, and the temperature was pleasant. The hike concluded at 2:15 pm.


Participants learned about fundamental butterfly identification techniques, such as wing patterns, colors, and size. They were also taught how to identify different species using a field guide. Throughout the hike, the participants were eager and engaged, asking questions and sharing their findings.

Butterfly Watchers Nepal, Bhaktapur Jaycees, and Nature Conservation and Study Centre are jointly organizing a Hiking Program to mark National Learn About Butterflies Day 2023. The event is observed on March 14th of each year and aims to raise awareness about the importance of butterflies in the ecosystem and their conservation.
Participants will enjoy a scenic hike in Suryabinayak Municipality, Bhaktapur, while learning about the different species of butterflies found in the area and Nepal as well. Expert guides from the Nature Conservation and Study Centre and Butterfly Watchers Nepal will accompany the participants and provide information on the different species of butterflies they encounter on the trail.
The event will start at 7:00 am at the Suryabinayak temple, and the participants will hike for approximately 5 hours. The trail is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
This is a paid event and open to the public, but participants are requested to register in advance with a payment of NRs. 1200/-. Interested individuals can register by calling at +977-9849696540 or by contacting Bhaktapur Jaycees.
This event is organized in collaboration with the District Forest Office, Bhaktapur, and aims to promote butterfly conservation and sustainable tourism in Nepal.
