Heading Back to the Village This Dashain and Tihar? Let’s Make Your Hometown Observations Count.

With our Conservation Champion:

Every Dashain and Tihar, a massive wave of people heads out of the cities and back to their roots across Nepal. It is our version of a nationwide homecoming—a time for family reunions, good food, and reconnecting with our hometowns.

While we are busy celebrating, there is an entire workforce quietly keeping our local ecosystems alive: the pollinators. Bees, butterflies, moths, and beetles are hard at work in our backyards and fields, and this festive season, we want to give them a little appreciation.

That is why we are running Pollinator Patrol Nepal 2026 from Ashwin 25 to Kartik 26.

Because everyone is scattering across different villages and regions right now, this is a massive opportunity for citizen science. When you are out for a walk or spending time outdoors in your hometown, take a second to look at the pollinators around you. Snap a few photos, note where you found them, and upload them to our project. Your hometown observations help us fill critical data gaps in our understanding of insect distribution in Nepal.

How to join in:

  1. Head over to our iNaturalist Himalayan Pollinator Patrol Project and join.
  2. Take clear pictures of any flower-visiting insects you spot while you’re out and about.
  3. Upload your observations with the location and details.

To make things a bit more interesting, we have some rewards lined up for the top 3 contributors!

Make your festive walks a bit more scientific this year. For full details on Himalayan Pollinator Patrol, check out our Pollinator Patrol Page.
