On August 4, 2026, the Research Association Hattisar (RAH) organized a school awareness program at Tamor Valley Secondary Boarding School in Dhankuta to mark International Clouded Leopard Day. Organized in partnership with the Nature Conservation and Study Centre (NCSC), the Central Campus of Technology (CCT), and the Nepal Student Association of Microbiology (NSAM), the event engaged students from Grades IX and X in interactive learning and creative conservation activities.
Event Highlights
Interactive Educational Presentation The program opened with a briefing on clouded leopard biology, highlighting their specialized climbing abilities, cloud-like coat patterns, and their role as key indicators of forest health. Students explored major threats facing these arboreal wild cats—including deforestation, timber harvesting, habitat loss, and illegal wildlife trade—followed by a Q&A session on regional forestry and wildlife protection.
Face Painting Session To build personal connection and enthusiasm, participants received hand-painted clouded leopard markings featuring their characteristic dark, oblong blotches.
Coloring Competition Students participated in a themed art contest using printed outlines of clouded leopards in forest canopy habitats. The activity combined creative expression with reflection on the species’ natural camouflage and reliance on dense jungle habitats.
Prize Distribution The day concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing standout entries from the coloring challenge and celebrating student participation.
